The Program Director and Head Coach at Head Start Sports is Ryan Hoy. After teaching physical education in Toronto for 14 years, Ryan brought his experience and expertise to Windsor-Essex. Ryan graduated with distinction from the Kinesiology program at Wilfrid Laurier University and earned his teaching degree at the University of Windsor. From Windsor, he headed to Scarborough where he built one of the most successful elementary school athletic programs in the city. Ryan has a track record of success in developing young athletes.

While teaching elementary school physical education to students from junior kindergarten to grade six, Ryan coached more than 100 teams that competed in the Toronto District Elementary School Athletic Association. He developed a culture of winning at the school as his teams achieved a winning percentage of more than .700 and won numerous Scarborough titles, as well as Toronto championships in basketball and volleyball. His school earned a reputation for outstanding sportsmanship and competitive excellence.

In addition to volunteering his time to coach at the school level, Ryan also coached rep sports during the summer where he had the opportunity to coach older athletes in grades seven to twelve. For seven years, he coached beach volleyball on the Ontario Volleyball Association tour. His youth teams won several tournaments and consistently finished in Tier 1 at both the provincial and national level tournaments.

Ryan has dedicated himself to helping student athletes reach their potential throughout his teaching and coaching career and Head Start Sports continues that mission.

Krisha Caronongan is the Assistant Coach at Head Start Sports. Krisha is a former provincial medalist in beach volleyball and has coached with Ryan over the past seven years. She brings experience, energy, and enthusiasm to her role with the organization. Krisha earned her Bachelor of Human Kinetics degree from the University of Windsor and she is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Education degree.

"When I ask my son to get ready for a Head Start Sports program he jumps in excitement. As a parent I highly recommend their programs year-round. I feel confident in Coach Ryan and Coach Krisha’s ability to create enthusiasm for sports in our children. I feel safe leaving my child in their care during the summer camps knowing the attention he will receive each day. The camps are jam-packed with fun activities that build their skills and understanding of the game. Your child is guaranteed to want to return the next day to continue their program. That makes Head Start Sports the best choice!" - Josephine – mother of an energetic 6-year-old

"You gotta go to Coach Ryan and Coach Krisha's programs because they're awesome. You will really, really enjoy it and I love what they do!" - Edoardo – age 6

"Ryan has been a passionate teacher and coach in the Toronto District School Board. He brings structure, energy and enthusiasm to all of his practices and this is evident in how well his players are prepared when it comes to game situations. Perhaps the best attribute that I can bequeath Ryan is the value that he places on sportsmanship and teamwork. His players leave everything on the court/field and are the first to congratulate an opponent for a job well done and pick them up off the ground when they get knocked over." - Rob Harris, Athletic Director for the Toronto District School Board

"I'm not sure I'll ever see a physical education program quite like the one Ryan ran at William Tredway Junior Public School and the championship banners speak for everything he achieved." - Simon Storey, former principal at William Tredway and current chair of the Toronto School Administrators' Association
